The Hawa Mahal in Wadhwan was being built by HH Thakore Saheb Dajiraj Sinhji of the Princely State of Wadhwan around 1880. Construction was not completed as he passed away in 1885. As he passed away during the construction it was considered a bad omen hence his successor, his younger brother HH Thakore Saheb Bal Sinhji did not continue building the Palace and built a new one instead. The Hawa Mahal was designed to be a Lake Palace. In the early 1930, HH Thakore Saheb Jorawar Sinhji took up the project and had plans to complete it but as he started, he also unfortunately passed away. This is why the Hawa Mahal remains unfinished. What stands today is a portion of one of the palaces’ wings. There were to be four wings and some were 4 to 5 floors in height. It would have been one of the finest Palaces in Gujarat.
