The Swaminarayan Temple in Muli is the 2nd oldest Swaminarayan Temple in the world and was built during the lifetime of Lord Shree Swaminarayan.
The Swaminarayan Temple in Muli was built during the reign and with the support of the 18th HH Thakore Saheb of Muli – Ramasinhji in 1823. Today it has completed 200 years. The HH Thakore Saheb of Muli used to host Lord Swaminarayan during his visits to Muli.
The places Lord Swaminarayan visited are considered pious religious centres (prasadi sthals). He visited Muli over 30 times as it was revered as the base for Dwarka. Muli housed the ashram of Lord Dattreya’s disciple King Alarka. The Alarka-ni-vaav (Stepwell) in Muli is existing proof of the same.
The Swaminarayan Temple in Muli has 78-84 intact pillars and was built in less than 2 years time which is unimaginable 200 years back. On 7th January 1823, Lord Swaminarayan performed prayers (pranpatishtha) for the idols as per Vedic rituals. The temple has idols of Shree Harikrishna Maharaj, Shree Radha Krishna Dev, Shree Ranchodji-Trikamji and Shree Dharmadev-Bhaktimata.
In the words of Lord Swaminarayan, the fruit of the darshan of the idols at the Muli Temple on Basant Panchami is the same as ten times the fruit of visiting all the holy places in India. Thousands of devotees visit the Swaminarayan Temple in Muli on Basant Panchami every year.
The Wooden Haveli inside the Swaminarayan Temple complex has been renovated, restored and now developed into a Swaminarayan Museum. It is one of the finest examples of wooden workmanship and architecture in the region.
