Muli is the only erstwhile princely state in Saurashtra belonging to the Parmar Clan who are descendants of the illustrious rulers, Samrat Vikramaditya and Raja Bhoj. The Parmars of Muli belong to the Sodha branch of Parmar Rajputs. In Tharparkar (Sind), Raja Ratansinhji had 4 sons namely Akhaji, Assoji, Laghdhirji I and Munjaji I. Akhaji and Assoji stayed in Tharparkar while Laghdhirji I and Munjaji I left for Saurashtra.
Laghdhirsinhji I founded the Kingdom of Muli in 1215 Vikram Samvat ie. 1158 AD in Saurashtra. He travelled from Tharparkar in Sind region to Muli. He carried with him the 5 idols of Bhagwan Mandavrai ji in a chariot namely:
Laghdhirsinhji I built the Mandavraiji Temple in Muli by installing the 5 idols at the temple he carried with him from Tharparkar. Munjaji I stayed and settled in Devalia-Chachapar villages in Saurashtra.
